Pluribus Theory: Carol's Eggs, Stem Cells, and the Hivemind | Season 1 Theories (2026)

The latest 'Pluribus' Theory That Seems Too Plausible to Ignore

If you’ve been following the buzz surrounding Pluribus, you know it's become almost as talked about as the debut season of Severance. This intense discussion has even led to the quick renewal of season 2. Fans are piecing together details, trying to anticipate where the story is headed. And now, it seems a specific discovery has emerged that could turn the remaining episodes into a nerve-wracking ordeal for Carol—unless she quickly uncovers what all of us have already spotted. Spoilers ahead.

Over the past week, two significant revelations came to light in the latest episode of Pluribus. First, Carol uncovers the disturbing truth that the Hivemind is processing bodies by grinding them up and mixing their remains into milk. Yes, it’s as grim as it sounds. But then, John Cena’s character explains that technically, this practice might be acceptable because the bodies are already deceased, and no new killings are involved. Moreover, since the Hivemind’s programming prevents them from harvesting plants—due to their "no killing" rules—they resort to this method to stave off starvation. Still, he adds that even with this approach, they’re only delaying starvation for about ten years.

Secondly, Carol discovers that the Hivemind has devised a way to connect the remaining survivors into their network using stem cells. The catch? Harvesting stem cells is invasive, and the Hivemind requires explicit consent from each individual. If they refuse permission, the process is halted. Once Carol hears this, she immediately calls the Hivemind’s message system to declare that she does not consent to any stem cells being taken from her. The response? A billboard message that reads, “We hear you, Carol. You do not consent. No stem cells will be extracted from your body.” At first glance, this seems to satisfy her, but here’s where it gets tricky.

And this is the part most people miss...

The message specifies “from your body,” which opens a whole new set of questions. Fans have recalled a line from episode 3, where Carol mentions she could have saved a hundred thousand dollars by simply freezing her eggs at an ice hotel instead of paying for other storage. Interestingly, the same eggs contain stem cells. The Hivemind, known for finding loopholes, could potentially harvest these stem cells from the eggs without infringing on her physical body. This implies they could still access her genetic material without her consent, sidestepping her refusal—and might do so, especially since stem cells are incredibly valuable for their purposes.

This brings us back to Zosia’s earlier comment, about how humans instinctively try to rescue someone drowning—an act of empathy the Hivemind views as a justification to intervene in survivors’ lives, even when they’re disconnected. Now, with just three episodes remaining in season one, it’s probably only a matter of time before Carol realizes this loophole. Anticipations are high that she’ll race to recover her eggs, possibly stored somewhere in Albuquerque, especially if the power has been off. Whether her eggs are still there or not remains an open question, but I believe this is the inevitable direction the story will take—an outcome we’ll likely see unfold very soon, perhaps as early as this Friday.
